The Provinces Neighborhood Overview

The Provinces is a neighborhood of 1,273 single-family homes in Severn, Maryland, located in northwestern Anne Arundel County, just minutes from Arundel Mills Mall and Fort George R. Meade. There are two separate HOA-type entities that protect property values and maintain a high quality of living for their respective residents. The Provinces Civic Association (formed in 1973) represents the 900 homes that began construction in 1970. Provinces Community Association was formed in the early 1990’s to represent the 373 homes that began construction in 1989.

Provinces Community Association History

When the original The Provinces neighborhood was built, three areas were left undeveloped – two small areas about 0.2 miles apart inside the original The Provinces neighborhood and one large area at the northeast border. In 1989, construction began on the houses on those three areas of undeveloped land. The large area at the northeast border was referred to as “Severn Meadows” and holds 311 of the Provinces Community Association’s homes. The remaining 62 homes were built on the two other areas nestled within the older neighborhood. The Developer of these three pieces of land formed a new HOA, naming it Provinces Community Association. That is who we are and those are the properties we represent.

Two different community organizations representing different areas in what is essentially the same giant neighborhood can get a bit confusing to residents and prospective home buyers. Many don't even know there are two different Associations. If you ask current residents of the post-1989 constructed homes where they live, most will tell you "The Provinces", but you may hear some folks refer to these areas as “The New Provinces" or "Severn Meadows”, as the signage states when entering Provincial Lane from Severn Road. All would be referring to the same community. Our email address refers to us as “New Provinces” (newprovincessevern@gmail.com) to make clear we are separate from the older neighborhood.
